Saturday, May 28, 2022, ABQ Journal, Race to be Dem candidate for BCSO boss gets crowded
It’s a crowded race for those vying to be the Democratic candidate for Bernalillo County Sheriff. Sheriff Gonzales’ assistant did not respond to questions from the Journal about whether he was endorsing a candidate. However, financial disclosures show he donated $2,600 each to his former undersheriff Rudy Mora and his current undersheriff Larry Koren.
Tuesday, May 24, 2022, “Did you see our new ad? [WATCH]” by Team Allen
With exactly TWO weeks to go until Election Day, we need all the resources we can get to spread my message countywide and keep this ad up on TV.
Why? Because we need change. We need new top leadership at BSCO. As Sheriff, I will end the corruption and lack of accountability we’ve experienced at the Sheriff’s office and embrace reform and transparency.
Tuesday, May 17, 2022, ABQ Journal: "John has the credentials and leadership experience”
“Allen says candidly one of the problems with local law enforcement is a failure to cooperate. He says BCSO deputies have often asked for permission to assist the APD ‘and most of the time were told no.’ Allen wants to repair that rift, and he has the law enforcement credentials and leadership experience to do it.”
Friday, May 13, 2022 What my opponents said on body cams, by John Allen
There are a lot of issues my fellow opponents and I have discussed on the campaign trail, but the one that comes up again and again concerns body cameras.
Let me be clear — I’ve always supported the use of body cameras. Unfortunately, some of my opponents, two of Manny Gonzales’ undersheriffs, haven’t always felt the same.
Sunday, May 8, 2022, Happy Mother's Day, by Athena Allen
I’m Athenea, John’s wife. In his campaign for Sheriff, John often talks about the importance of keeping each other safe — and that’s a concern we all share. I strongly believe in community engagement — When we all come together and listen to the thoughts and concerns of families and friends, it helps all of us.
Friday, May 6, Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!, Team John Allen for Sheriff
John is a Lead Instructor at the Central New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy (CNMLEA) where he trains new police officers for APD and other departments around our state. John helps bring the right people into law enforcement. He believes young cadets, who are committing to public service, should have opportunities to work in professional and supportive environments.

You deserve a Sheriff that can deliver on your public safety. That’s why I’m endorsing John Allen to be the next Bernalillo County Sheriff. With a career in law enforcement and a real respect for his community, John Allen pulls no punches. He understands it’s time for ethical new leadership at the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office. John will be a reform-minded leader who knows that it takes to work collaboratively and across jurisdictions to fight crime and keep our community safe. Monday, April 4, 2022 - Moms Demand Action wants a Sheriff to work against gun violence, by Team John Allen
We're happy to share that John recently earned the 2022 Gun Sense Candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action — because Moms Demand Action knows John will be a Sheriff who will do all he can to reduce gun violence. You should know that not all Democratic candidates for Sheriff will side with gun safety advocates. As a State Representative, Patricio Ruiloba consistently voted against all gun safety legislation, including background checks and extreme risk protection orders (ERPO) laws. Do we really want elected officials who are beholden to the NRA over dedicated groups like Moms Demand Action?”
Sunday, April 3, 2022 - Join us with John Allen tomorrow?, by Sen. Pope, Rep. Garratt, and Comm. O'Malley
John Allen’s candidacy for Bernalillo County Sheriff is a breath of fresh air. I love that he’s a Westsider, and I know he’ll do what it takes to serve every corner of our county as best he can. Thursday, March 24, 2022 - More labor unions are on board!, by John Allen, Democrat for BernCo Sheriff
A few weeks ago, we got a big endorsement from LiUNA Local 16. Today, I’m extremely pleased to inform you that two other unions have jumped on board our campaign — Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART) Local 49 and Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Local 1319! I’ve been a union member myself, and so I have a unique and thoughtful understanding of the importance of preserving labor rights like a living wage, quality health care, and safe working conditions.”
Monday, March 21, 2022 - It's John's Birthday!, by Athenea Allen
I’m so proud of John. The work ethic, enthusiasm, and commitment he brings to every single thing he does is truly inspiring, and it’s no different in the race for Bernalillo County Sheriff. Over the years, I have watched him grow into not only a public servant who truly believes in the power of his community — but a leader who others look towards for guidance, strength, and dependability. Our county has unfortunately seen a lot of turmoil in the Sheriff’s office recently. The corruption, fraud, and self-serving behaviors have to stop. I know John will be the kind of Sheriff we truly deserve and need, and it would mean the world to me to have you support him!”

I’m with John Allen because I’m confident he’ll finally give our county the leadership it needs in the Sheriff’s office. He represents everything our current Sheriff is not — John is an experienced, forward-thinking, knowledgeable leader who will focus on ending corruption and embracing reform in the Sheriff’s Office while working with others to make our community safer.”
Saturday, March 12, 2022, The field has been set, and the choice is clear, by Neri Holguin
In addition to our candidate John Allen, six other Democrats filed to run for Sheriff. It is clear that we have so much at stake, because the field now includes several candidates who will continue the backward and anti-democratic policies of outgoing Sheriff Manny Gonzales…

Wednesday, March 3, 2022, What it means to be a pro-choice Sheriff by John Allen
Abortion and access to reproductive healthcare is one of those key issues. As Bernalillo County Sheriff, I will do my part to uphold New Mexico’s laws that keep abortion safe and legal while protecting patients and providers from unlawful harassment and violence. I will not tolerate protesters who threaten providers and seek to stomp on the rights of others. Women in New Mexico and women who come here for abortion care should not have their safety threatened. I will always uphold the law and use the tools necessary to make sure no one’s safety is at risk. Do you know where other Democratic candidates for Sheriff stand on abortion?
Saturday, February 26, 2022, John Allen is the change we need by Rep. Melanie Stansbury

Thursday, February 17, 2022, On guns, I'll be a different kind of sheriff, by John Allen
More often than not, law enforcement officials and Sheriffs from around the state go to Santa Fe to fight against gun safety legislation — including Bernalillo County’s current Sheriff, who supported efforts like the NRA’s “Second Amendment Sanctuary" resolution in opposition to common sense gun laws like background checks and closing the gun show loophole. That won’t be me. We don’t need elected officials who are beholden to big bucks and are just mouthpieces for the NRA and other special interests that don’t have the best interest of the public at heart.
Thursday, February 17, 2022, I'd be honored to have you join our team, by John Allen
I am running for Bernalillo County Sheriff to create a 21st century approach to the public’s safety. I believe we can accomplish this with grounded and new leadership in our Sheriff’s Office.

“I hope to unite the people and policymakers of our county around the goals of ensuring public safety, preventing crime before it happens, and ensuring we take care of our mental and behavioral health calls appropriately,” Allen said in the news release. His campaign also said he has “a bold plan to rebuild public trust in our Sheriff’s office.”
